Virtual Town Hall: Retail Operations in the COVID-19 Pandemic

Retail operations have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, just as all areas of collegiate dining have. Adjustments to food courts, c-stores, and other retail locations have been required. In response, campuses have had to implement safety changes such as new signage, plexi-glass, changes to self-serve, and new cleaning protocols. Amidst the pandemic, retail has continued to face competition as well, forcing collegiate dining operations to adjust to compete with local grocery stores and large national chains.

Join NACUFS for this Virtual Town Hall to hear from our panelists how their operations have responded. Panelists will answer questions including:

  • How have you worked with your local health department to make sure your retail operations were following requirements?
  • How has the pandemic impacted the financial standing of your operation?
  • How have you continued to support local businesses, or outsource less throughout this time and how has this impacted your operation?
  • Are you providing a location for students to study and gather in your coffee shop and café locations? How has this changed?

Panelists:
Jason Arnett, manager, food court and coffee bars, Johnson County Community College
Donna Morris-Powell, director for retail operations, North Carolina A&T State University
Jeffrey Palmer, director of dining, culinary, and markets, University of California San Diego

The panelists would like to hear your questions and be able to address them during the Virtual Town Hall. Please submit your questions no later than Wednesday, February 10, 2021, to Jenna Goins, content & community manager, at JGoins@NACUFS.org. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to ask questions during the Virtual Town Hall.
