The Governor’s Academy, the oldest boarding school in New England, inspires and engages inquisitive
students in ninth through twelfth grade. Our 456-acre campus is located thirty miles north of Boston and five
miles south of Newburyport, a classic New England coastal town. Govs has approximately 400 students and
200 employees.

POSITION SUMMARY
This full-time Director of Dining Services, oversees and manages the daily dining, retail, and catering
activities. This position establishes and maintains standards, develops budgets, and manages personnel
functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides comprehensive leadership for an extensive self-operated dining program that comprises three
units: board, retail, and catering
- Oversees a broad portfolio of responsibilities, including providing an overall vision, developing a
budget, and managing personnel functions.
- Administers fiscal management and leads a Dining Services team that provides oversight of food
preparation and services, nutrition and food sensitivities, compliance with safety and sanitation
regulations, staff supervision and training, development of customer service standards, policies and
procedures, and the support of sustainability and local-foods programs.
- Establishes and maintains quality through well-developed culinary and production standards with a
focus on healthy dining options and accommodating students with food sensitivities and allergies.
- Participates in professional organizations such as NACUFS to stay abreast of industry developments.
- Fosters strong, collaborative relationships with campus and external partners and stakeholders.
- Manages an annual operating budget of $ 2 million, and supervises a high-performing management
team of 4 and 35 staff employees
- Must show a demonstrated interest in social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion work and have
experience creating equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist spaces.

QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of progressive professional experience in a food
service/hospitality setting are required
- Culinary arts, dietetics, or related field is preferred

- Further preferred qualifications include a familiarity with multiple phases of food service such as
purchasing, preparation, production, merchandising, customer service, catering, and inventory control;
- Demonstrated experience supervising and training a staff of full-time and part-time employees;
- Demonstrated experience engaging with and empowering staff to support the missions of the
department;
- Administrative ability and proven commitment to employee/team development;
- Demonstrated knowledge of profit and loss accountability;
- ServSafe® certification and familiarity with food service software programs.
- Proven ability to support the Academy’s commitment to equity and diversity.
- Valid driver’s license required; the successful candidate must be eligible to drive in Massachusetts
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check

- Nights, weekends and special events
- Exempt/Administrative Staff

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS
This position manages and directs all positions within Dining Services and Snack Bar.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
To perform essential functions of the job, the following applies:

capable of handling details effectively, and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and
teamwork skills.
- Must be physically and mentally capable of performing multiple tasks under stressful situations and
able to function in a fast- paced environment.
- Physical ability to perform all job functions.
- Is capable of standing, bending, walking, and climbing stairs.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The Academy has a modern, well-equipped dining hall, kitchen and servery where most of the work will
be performed.
- Daily exposure to heat, steam, cold, cleaning solutions should be expected.
- The successful candidate will be flexible, enthusiastic, hardworking, and responsible and will enjoy a
very busy work environment in which they will meet many people on a daily basis.
