Director of Food Service
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s Degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business or related field; AND at least one year of relevant school nutrition programs experience
- Five or more years, previous experience in a comprehensive food service operation
- Good communication and supervisory skills
- Valid NYS Drivers License (copy required upon initial hire date)
- Yearly Physical (required within 1 month of initial hire date)
- Ability to work with a diverse population presenting a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, developmental and sexual identities.Must have the ability and willingness to establish and foster healthy and supportive relationships that acknowledge individual identities and encourage personal growth.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent educational experience; with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutritition education, culinary arts, business, or related field; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent educational experience, with any academic major or area of concentration, AND either a State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors or at least one year of relevant school nutrition program experience
- SERVESAFE Certified
- Prior experience training, purchasing and managing budgets

- Must successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
HOURS:
- 40 hours per week
- Position will require varied hours including evenings and weekend management oversight on a rotating basis.
- Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program
SALARY:
$95,000 to $105,000
OBJECTIVES OF POSITION:
The Director of Food Services is primarily responsible for the successful vision and leadership that ensures the delivery of a high-quality dining program, services, facilities, and food. The Director will lead innovative services that balance the Agency’s commitment to serve and promote healthy food choices to all youth, staff members, alumni and guests with the motivation to improve growth through creativity, efficiency and thoughtful review of programs and services, while in compliance with local, state and federal nutrition standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Required to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Be able to walk down and climb stairs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the safe and effective operations of the Food Services Department by establishing policies and procedures to be adhered to by all staff members of the Ewald Dining Facilities.
- Responsible for purchasing of all food and non-food items in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Food Services/OperationsManager
- Oversight of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP), ensuring the programs fiscal and nutritional integrity, including managing food production, adhering to food safety standards, planning menus, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations, as well as promoting healthy eating habits.
- Collaborate regularly with a Registered Dietician to assure menu items are well balanced and provide variety, provide oversight of Management team to assure an effective Food Safety Program for all dining services, and ensure staff members maintain clean and attractive facilities.
- Work closely with the Director of Operations on quality assurance, menu and concept development and the finance department on purchsing and pricing.
- Responsible for acceptable scores on all Health and Education Department audits for both New York State and Tompkins County.
- Development and evaluation of food production systems and procedures for ordering, receiving, storing, preparing and serving of all food-related products.
- Responsible for staff hiring, training, payroll documentation, performance management activities, and ensuring an environment where staff are valued, recognized, respected and encouraged to develop their skills and enhance their careers.
- Establish and maintain close and collaborative relationships with all Agency and School Administration and staff members, community members, vendors, and other industry partners,and serve on the Agency Safety Committee.
- Oversight of all inventory control records, ensuring proper maintenance and consistency.
- Coordinate and maintain emergency preparedness plans for Ewald Dining Services in collaboration with the agency Safety Team.
- Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with every safety standard, practice, and policy of The William George Agency.This includes, but is not limited to, review of The William George Agency’s Safety Policy and attending all required safety-related training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
