Northern Michigan University is seeking applications for a Manager-Dining Services’ Employment Operations/Training. The position manages, directs and coordinates all employment activities, hiring processes, onboarding activities, training, time keeping processes, payroll, and employment paperwork for Dining Services and Auxiliary Operations which includes student employees (600+), temporary/casual employees (up to 20), and full-time staff (up to 50). Responsible for maintaining files and electronic personnel records, preparing documentation for temporary staff, overtime equalization, leave balances, and vacation requests. Serve as backup and support for the Dining Services central office team. Provide assistance to the senior administrative team, including relief from routine administrative duties.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree. One year experience in an office setting with a focus on organization skills, database management and/or a computerized payroll system, record keeping, and efficiencies in completing daily tasks.
Required knowledge/skills/abilities:
Knowledge of union contracts and experience preparing routine documentation required based on contractual guidelines.
Knowledge of practices, policies and procedures related to human resources, employment and onboarding processes, and employment regulations.
Ability to understand principles for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
Ability to accurately perform tasks while managing multiple interruptions.
Ability to instruct others on how to perform a task. Knowledge of principles and procedures for active personnel recruitment, selection, onboarding, training and directing people as they work.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to multi-task.
The schedule is traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.
The targeted salary range is $42,000-$45,600.
