ATTENTION:

 

The University Center at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks an Assistant Director of Business and Dining Services (Administrative Assistant Director (B), AD053).

 

JOB DETAILS:

 

The University Center (UC) Assistant Director for Business and Dining Services is responsible for assisting with the planning and direction for the administrative operations of the following units: 1) University Dining, 2) Hawk Card Office (university identification card), and 3) UC Finance (including contract management). This position is charged with evaluating, designing, and implementing the strategic direction for day to day operations of the on-campus dining program including the data management systems (point of sale devices and meal plan), the operational functions, data management systems for the University ID program and prepaid debit program, and financial compliance systems that support the overall work within the University Center. The Assistant Director assists in the development and management of budgets related to respective administrative oversight and serves as a member of the UC Leadership Team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, finance, hospitality, or related field.
  • Experience working with budget analysis, development, implementation, and/or reporting.
  • Experience supervising full-time professional and/or student employees.
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Contract management, including audit, compliance, and contractor support.
  • Experience in the contract food service industry.
  • Experience with Point of Sale (POS) systems.
  • Policy development and risk management.
  • Experience with food service equipment in a multi-functional campus dining program.
  • Excellent customer service as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • ServSafe Food Handler certified and ServSafe Alcohol certified or willingness to become certified 90 days of hire.
  • Master’s Degree in related field or 5 years’ experience.

  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

General Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Plans, implements, executes, and evaluates existing strategies and objectives for the UC Business and Dining
    Services units and makes recommendations to department leadership for program or function enhancement.
  • Engage in strategic planning and policies to ensure the strategic direction supports the needs of stakeholders.
  • Evaluate, design, and implement daily operations to align with the strategic direction.
  • Assist with the establishment of goals and priorities for the annual budget for all revenues and expenditures.
  • Support the development of processes and procedures for each unit.
  • Ensure that related policies, procedures, and standards are maintained for business and dining services related
    units.
  • Conduct program assessments related to the UC Business and Dining Services units.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement long-range plan of technology hardware and software purchases to enhance
    programs and services of the UC Business and Dining Services units.
  • Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, performance, assigning, evaluating and approving hours worked of 3.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
     

UW-W Dining Services Program

  • Assists the University Center Executive Director with development and oversight of the university dining contract
    management and related budgets.
  • Works with the University Center and dining contractor marketing teams to evaluate, design, and implement
    dining marketing initiatives related to meal plans and dining services.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the software and hardware technology support systems.
  • Assists in the preparation of related bid documents.
  • Serves as the representative of UC Business and Dining Services at campus and community events.
  • Serves as the chair of the UW-W Dining Services Dining Advisory Committee and represents UC Business and
    Dining Services on various campus committees and campus event planning.
  • Assists with development, review, and revision of university policies and guidelines.
  • Responsive to the needs and trends of diverse campus populations and organizations; assist with their unique
    dining needs to ensure adherence to dining related policies.
  • Communicates regularly with campus stakeholders on changes to: meal plans, hours of operations, policy and
    procedure, and other prominent information.
  • Serves on the University Housing Appeals committee, and reviews board plan appeals and contract exception
    requests.
  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Building Operations on facility mechanical improvements
    projects in dining spaces, including renovations, upgrades, major construction projects, preventative.
    maintenance schedule, and emergency response.
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing long-term capital budget for dining related needs.
     

HawkCard Office

  • Develop policies, features, and services to improve and expand services related to UW-Whitewater photo ID card
    operations including prepaid debit/access system management.
  • Supervise staff to ensure that patron contracts, deposits, patron account information and billing information are
    current, accurate and reconciled.
  • Assist campus prepaid debit card service providers to resolve problems experienced or concerns that arise with
    debit/access equipment or the campus prepaid debit card program.
  • Oversees the communication to departments providing services via the campus prepaid debit card system.
  • Responsible for expanding and Manage off-campus business/campus prepaid debit card program
    Finance and Contract Management.
  • Responsible for oversight of UC Business and Dining Services accounts including those related to student/staff
    enrollment in dining service plans, campus debit card program, and associated fee billing records.
  • Assist the University Center Leadership Team in contract management, including assisting in the preparation of
    contract bid specifications and Request for Proposal/Bids (RFP and RFB) documents as needed.
  • Monitor contract compliance and document performance through regular communications with each vendor.
  • Assist the UC Administrative Specialist - Business and Dining Services in monitoring and reconciling reports for
    contracted services.
  • Proactively work with campus stakeholders to resolve compliance issues regarding related contracts as well as
    assist in evaluating the needs for expansion of services and features.
  • Implement regular assessment through evaluations, surveys, review of website, social media, customers
    comments, and scheduled program audits to assist in data driven decision and overall satisfaction of contracted
    services.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

 

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within the range of $75,000 - $82,000 commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications.
