Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, Colorado is among the nation's leading research universities, enrolling approximately 34,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. At CSU, housing & dining services (HDS) works to create a safe and supportive on-campus living and learning environment. The largest department on campus, HDS employs 450 full-time staff and 1,700 hourly and student staff, and is responsible for all residential dining and housing facilities. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant and progressive community of 165,000 situated on the front range of the Rocky Mountains with easy access to numerous cultural opportunities.

 

The Position

 

Reporting to the associate executive director for housing and dining services administration, the director of residential dining services (RDS) creates and leads the vision for a holistic approach to dining services and creates inclusive communities where students can thrive, transition, and persist at CSU.

 

The director provides strategic, innovative, and administrative oversight of a dining program serving approximately 2.5 million meals per year to residential students, faculty, staff, conference participants, and guests at three all-you-care-to-eat dining centers, one central production kitchen, one retail operation, one warehouse operation, two mini markets, and one dining center located at the CSU Mountain Campus. They will oversee a $44 million budget, directly supervise seven full-time staff members, and indirectly supervise 172 additional full-time staff and 700 student employees.

 

The next director will have the opportunity to think differently and creatively about residential dining at CSU, and lead the overall dining program into a dynamic future.

 

Qualifications

 

Qualified candidates must have a bachelor's degree in business administration, management, hospitality management, food service administration, institutional food services, or a related field. Seven or more years of progressive responsibility and accountability at the administrative level, and five years of direct supervision of full-time professional staff are required.

 

The next director is required to have experience in Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and in implementing health department policies and procedures. They are also required to have a commitment to training, mentoring, and developing a large diverse staff, have familiarity with food information systems, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity inclusion, and belonging.

 

The successful candidate must have demonstrated budget management experience with complex budgets, strong financial acumen, and expertise in large-volume institutional food service operations. The director must be capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and be willing to center the student experience as the cornerstone of the dining program.
