Strategic Sourcing Specialist

This position will work in a hybrid capacity with a combination of onsite and remote work.

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist will assist in managing food-related purchasing, supply chain management, and contracting within Purdue Dining & Culinary. Manage supplier and operator relationships, arrange agreements to leverage purchasing volume, and rationalize the supplier base and inventory to an optimum level.  Research, evaluate, and select suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and reputation. Prepare bid requirements, implement effective negotiation tactics, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.  Build strong customer relationships throughout the decision-making process.  Report supplier performance, trends, operational statistics, and other metrics.  Monitor and follow applicable policy, laws, and regulations.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Food Science, Food Service Management, or related field.
  • Two years of procurement experience or business administration involving procurement functions.
  • In lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience (High School Diploma + 6 years of experience).
  • Possess high integrity, excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal and intercultural relations, conflict resolution, customer-driven focus, analytical skills, organizational skills, and strong decision making. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate success in process review and improvement: challenging the status quo and championing change. 
  • Skills or experience with negotiation and supplier management. 
  • Proven ordering and inventory management skills.
  • Ability to use business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment to resolve problems effectively.
  • Exhibit strong procurement life cycle, process management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to recognize trends and execute adjustments with internal and external partners, capitalizing on both strategic and tactical opportunities.  
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must understand Supply Management, Strategic Sourcing principles, and contract laws.
  • ServSafe certification or ability to become certified within the first year of employment. 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in a below-freezing environment for inventory purposes.


  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM). 
  • Knowledge and experience in foodservice markets. 
  • Experience with purchasing food equipment. 
  • Experience in sustainable supply systems management.
