The University of Kansas Memorial Union Corporation is searching for a Director of Dining Services. This executive level leadership role will lead a $14 million Dining Services operation (retail, catering and residential) providing exemplary experience and sales growth on the Lawrence campus. This leader will be team focused with a strong emphasis on building a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This leader will enjoy the opportunity to be innovative. The Director participates in departmental and campus-wide special project initiatives, fostering relationships with the University and affiliate partners. The Director is responsible for the strategic direction in accordance with Memorial Union/University vision and is involved in the complexities of day-to-day operational problem solving.
Starting salary range for this position is $78,800 - $100,500.
-Create, manage, and analyze budget of $14 million
-Ensure overall budget schedules, financial targets and performance standards are achieved
-Teach and train all leadership staff on effectively reaching these financial goals.
-Oversee the supervision and training practices of dining leadership staff
-Directly supervise the Assistant Director - Retail, Assistant Director - Campus Operations, and Assistant Director - Catering.
-Manage performance of employees and drive an employee focused culture throughout the organization
-Lead through example in valuing and training a diverse workforce
-Interpret and implement the policies of the Union and the University throughout dining staff
-Work collaboratively with other areas in the Union and on campus; consult with key Dining -Partners, Services staff, internal and external vendors
-Establish and maintain a good working rapport with University Administration
-Serve as a member of the Corporation Board and provide professional public relations for faculty, staff and students.
Managing Customer Focus
-Develop new approaches to meeting customer needs
-Maintain communications through all levels of organization
-Act as a contact between KUDS and University departments
-Provide oversight to department guest service with internal and external vendors
-Promote customer focus throughout the organization
Food Quality Management
-Develop and implement standards and procedures for operational efficiency in areas of food, labor, procurement, physical facilities, and green practices
-Assure food service programs meet compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, and comply with area health ordinances
-Ensure food excellence, safety and nutrition
-Create and maintain a strategic and innovative direction
-Display an orientation toward profitability while aligning work with strategic goals
-Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Hotel and Restaurant Administration, Institutional management, Business Administration, or closely related field
-Minimum of 8 years of supervisory/management experience on a multi-operational level basis with extensive financial experience which includes or related to: collegiate residential dining operations; retail cash operations, catering, planning and budgeting
-Responsibility for an annual revenue of $10 million or more
-Demonstrated evidence of leading an employee focused culture with a strong customer service foundation
-Strong business, budget, marketing and human resource management experience
THE BEST CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
-Master’s degree in Business, Dietetics, Hotel Restaurant Management, or related field.
-ServSafe certification or the ability to be certified within three months of employment
-Ability to streamline business processes to generate efficiencies within units and support departments
-Training in food safety and sanitation, American Culinary Federation or equivalent certification desirable.
-Active membership in the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS).
