Christopher Toote, treasurer

Drawing inspiration from the words of Napoleon Hill: “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, he can achieve,” Christopher Toote has proven to be a true exemplar of this powerful idea.

Born and raised in the island city of Nassau, Bahamas, Toote's educational journey began at Woodes Cox Primary School, Western Junior School, St. Augustine’s College, and Bahamas Academy. His academic pursuits led him to earn a diverse array of degrees, including two historically Black colleges & universities: a bachelor’s in pre-med from Prairie View A&M University, an MBA from the University of New Orleans, a Ph.D. in urban higher education, administration and leadership from Jackson State University, and a Doctor of Ministry from Jacksonville Theological Seminary, among others.

Over an impressive career, Toote has amassed extensive experience in student affairs, dining management, and leadership within higher education. He has the unique experience and perspective of serving both as the dining partner/operator in the food service industry and the client. Having served as associate vice president and vice president of student affairs, he understands the varied needs and expectations of the client. Toote has served as the executive director of UChicago Dining at The University of Chicago since 2018, overseeing a multifaceted dining services program that includes residential dining, retail operations, catering, and a commissary with an operating budget of over $30 million annually. His leadership extends to managing contracts, sub-contractors, and a large composite staff, while playing a pivotal role in strategic planning for major university projects.

Toote's dedication to NACUFS is evident through his active participation on various committees and volunteer positions. He serves as treasurer on the NACUFS Board of Trustees and on the NACUFS Foundation Board of Directors. His leadership and contributions have been instrumental in advancing NACUFS' mission and supporting collegiate dining excellence.

In addition to his dedicated work in campus hospitality and higher education administration, Toote is also a pastor, inventor, and prolific author. He has penned ten books on topics around leadership and faith, including The 10 Universal Laws of Success, and his work continues on a new book focused on leadership. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, billiards, golf, and international affairs.

Among his many accomplishments, Toote is particularly proud of developing the hybrid operation model of higher education dining at The University of Chicago, which has set a new standard for innovation and efficiency in campus dining. This achievement reflects his commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable dining environments that enhance the campus community experience.

Toote's journey from Nassau to Chicago, marked by multifaceted successes, stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to achieving excellence in collegiate dining and beyond. His innovative approaches, strategic vision, and dedication to service make him a valuable asset to NACUFS and an inspiring leader in the field.
