Oregon State University Catering is a full-service caterer offering inspired cuisine and exceptional service for predominantly on-campus events, including small to large gatherings, meetings and conferences, held all over our 400+ acre campus. With a focus on local and sustainable ingredients, OSU Catering is a $2.5 million business that offers standard or specialized menus to meet every client’s individual needs.

 

The purpose of this position is to lead and manage all catering activities.  This includes assisting clients with event planning, coordinating the set up and service of all catered events, training staff on service techniques and room design, and scheduling staff and materials to successfully accomplish events, as well as collaborating with the culinary team to create and present food that exceeds the guests’ expectations.  This position is responsible for setting performance expectations and providing the necessary leadership and feedback to ensure that those expectations are met.  This position is responsible for partnering with others to develop the catering menu, website, service and dress standards, vehicle maintenance, and budget for University Catering.  The person in this position is the OLCC (Oregon Liquor Control Commission) license manager for the department.

 

Required qualifications include:

A minimum of 5 years progressive work experience in a management capacity, including 3 years full time work experience in a large scale banquet/catering or restaurant operation; ability to assist staff with identifying problems and creating solutions; strong problem solving skills and ability to manage logistics; excellent customer service skills; demonstrated ability to coach/mentor/train/motivate others; thorough knowledge of standard table service, food presentation techniques, as well as food safety and sanitation procedures; excellent oral and written communication skills, cooperation and organizational skills; basic working knowledge of Windows-based personal computer applications; and demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

 

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Annual starting salary range of $56,000 - $66,000 which includes a comprehensive benefits package. This is a full-time, 12-month, fixed term position.
