The Department of Retail Services is a university run operation consisting of both residential and retail food service units, as well as 20|20 Catering, vending and concessions.

Responsibilities

This position is located within Sandburg Residence Halls. Under direction of Residential Dining Managers, this position functions as a supervisor for two areas: Sandburg Cafe (University’s Residential meal plan unit- 75%) & Palm Gardens (a restaurant concept that does not have regular alcohol service and is a seasonal operation- 25%).

Food Service Supervisor will act as one of the lead supervisors responsible for opening and/or closing procedures and daily operation of the Café, Palm Gardens and other areas assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for opening and/or closing procedures and daily operation of the unit(s) providing fast food type products as appropriate to the unit. The incumbent will be responsible for the daily operation and efficiency of the unit(s). Incumbent leads and trains staff in food and beverage production, sanitation, service of meals, and customer service. Incumbent insures all food service stations are properly staffed, cleaned, and operate effectively. Incumbent must maintain a high priority of safety and sanitation. Incumbent interacts with both the guests and staff, promotes sales, monitors staffing levels, as well as several other tasks to ensure the operation runs to the best of its ability. The incumbent operates with a high level of professionalism to ensure cohesive efforts between multiple departments are maintained. The incumbent is responsible for evaluating, coaching, and recommending formal discipline for all subordinate staff (Full-time, LTE & student employees).

Hours of Operation: Sandburg is a 7 day operation, with unit hours ranging from 7am to approximately 7pm, and Palm Gardens is a 7 day operation, with unit hours ranging from 7pm to midnight. As a result, the individual in this position may be required to work evening and/or weekend hours, with a possibility of overtime. Nights and weekends availability is needed if there are special events, training of personnel and based on operational needs. The working hours of this position are not determined at this time. The hours will be finalized prior to the closing date of the position and applicants will be contacted to confirm their continued interest in the position. This position will also require the ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Salary: This position is Full-Time (40 hours per week) and Full-year (12 months). The position comes with a competitive salary and benefit package. The minimum starting hourly rate is $18.00; the final hourly rate is dependent upon the finalist’s experience, education, qualifications and equity within the department. This appointment is a direct State of Wisconsin position which comes with full State of Wisconsin health, dental, vision, retirement, sick time and vacation benefits and is covered under the Wisconsin Retirement System.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• At least two years of supervisory experience in a food service environment;
• Experience working in a large volume and fast-paced environment -with gross sales in excess of $1 million.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with staff training, assigning tasks and employee development;
• Experience with evaluating and disciplining staff;
• Experience in employee scheduling and payroll;
• Experience using POS system to process guest orders and payment in customer service environment;
• Microsoft Office Suite skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT);
• Working knowledge of food and non-food inventory control. Working experience with computerized ordering, inventory and billing systems such as Food Service Suite (FSS) and Event Management System (EMS) or similar is strongly preferred;
• Experience working in a higher education setting. Further experience working in higher education setting in a dining or similar area is strongly preferred;
• Serv-Safe Manager Certification or equivalent;
• Associate’s Degree or higher in Business, Hospitality, Culinary Arts, or related field
