Organization Details

Columbia is located 120 miles west of St. Louis and 120 miles east of Kansas City on Interstate 70. The University of Missouri has a student population of approximately 34,600. Campus Dining Services has total sales of 24 million dollars and includes 21 operations including residential dining; national, regional, and self-branded retail shops; convenience stores; and coffee houses/cafes.

Responsibilities

Assist in directing the daily operations in a unique and dynamic college University Club and Catering environment. Effectively lead/direct and be present throughout the operation of assigned events and Club service to ensure that all designated procedures are followed and standards are met, resulting in fast, high quality, safe, and cost-efficient food production and service to customers. Assist in supervising activities of assigned staff, including student and full-time employees. Assist in developing a vision for and implementing the layout, set up and service of events, administering systems for inventorying, purchasing, pricing, producing, displaying, merchandising, marketing, advertising, promoting, and selling products and merchandise, making the most efficient and effective use of resources while maximizing sales and making a profit. Assist in meeting the department’s customer service objectives by constantly analyzing unit operations to ensure maximum effectiveness and compliance with departmental objectives. Assist in the strategic planning process for the club, catering and department; assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of applicable renovations, and updating, of policies, procedures, standards, budget, and marketing/public relations activities. Assist in communicating effectively and efficiently with customers, staff, University and community groups, members and vendor representatives. Participate in on-going training activities; assist in supervising students in courses that use the facilities as classrooms and interns/trainees; perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in hospitality management, food and nutrition, or related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Flexibility in shift scheduling; as early mornings, late nights and weekend shifts may be required to meet event needs. Preferred: Catering and fine dining experience, preferably in a college and university setting. Serv-Safe Certification is preferred.

Technical skills required: Thorough knowledge of food service principles and practices; understanding of staffing, equipment utilization and cost control management; effective communication and training skills; ability to meet frequent deadlines in an organized fashion; and an ability to interact positively with the public.
