University Club of Missouri is a private member club located on the campus of the University of Missouri. The mission statement for the University Club is “To deliver an exceptional member experience through excellent food, service, and events on the campus of the University of Missouri.”

University Catering’s mission is “University Catering is committed to providing clientele with high-quality and diverse cuisine accompanied with a knowledgeable and innovative approach to the execution of exceptional events…” Anticipated annual sales volume of approximately $3.5 million and 830 events. University Club and University Catering are part of Campus Dining. Campus Dining contributes positively to the mission of the University of Missouri and the priorities of the Division of Operations

Columbia is located 120 miles west of St. Louis and 120 miles east of Kansas City on Interstate 70. The University of Missouri has a student population of approximately 34,000. Campus Dining Services has total sales of $26,800,000 and includes 31 operations (all-you-care-to-eat and a la carte residential dining, cafés, coffee houses, Mizzou Market convenience stores, private club, catering and restaurants, including national, regional, and self brands).

Responsibilities

This position will oversee day-to-day operation and create success as the leader guiding a team of talented individuals whose primary focus is a private member club and a dynamic and diverse catering, event and business generation unit. The assistant director reports to the director of Campus Dining Services, leads all club member events and catering operations; assists the director in setting department direction and developing, communicating, coordinating and evaluating various plans (e.g.: budget, goals, policies, procedures, assessment, etc…); assists in organizing and managing the personnel function of assigned operations; communicates effectively and efficiently; ensures the administration of food production/inventory systems; and ensures the administration of management information systems, while maximizing sales and making a profit. Events range from small refreshment services to large, high-profile gala events and holiday parties serving over 1,000 guests. The assistant director is a seasoned professional committed to excellent customer service and high culinary standards, relishes innovation and fosters strong client relationships.

Required Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management/or comparable degree, or an equivalent combination of education and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. The best qualified candidate will have proven experience in causal and/or fine dining catering client management, training and leading a catering or food service staff; working with catering menus, costing and pricing, labor control food and beverage operations; and demonstrated skill in service standards, guest relations and dining etiquette.

Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree in hospitality management/or comparable degree. More than six years’ progressive supervisory experience in food-service operations with focus on club and catering operations. ServSafe Certified and SMART Certified desired.
