Well, it’s back to campus for fall term, with all that implies: Welcome Week, new meal plan holders, revised menus, new staff, football games, Greek rush, etc.. It is this shared experience that makes NACUFS such a great organization. We all get it! The feeling of community we share during our get-togethers is tangible. Helping each other and our respective organizations to grow and become the best we can be is an understanding within NACUFS. It’s the people that make NACUFS, and the Southern Region is blessed with the most talented and dedicated in the industry. I’m proud to be associated with all of you.
Coming up for NACUFS Southern this fall and winter:
The Southern regional council will meet October 26–28, 2012 at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The council will have the opportunity to tour the facilities for the 2013 Southern Region Conference to be held there March 6-9, 2013. I’m sure conference chair Sam Bennett and staff will host a fantastic conference.
Lisa Eberhardt, RD, executive dietitian at North Carolina State University and Southern Region nutrition chair, was recently honored with the Governor’s Award for Excellence. Eberhardt was recognized for excellence in the innovations category. Congratulations, Lisa.
The Southern Region will be represented at the upcoming Marketing Institute, to be held December 4-8, 2012 at Coca-Cola Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, by the following individuals:
Congratulations all! Applications for the summer Institutes will be available beginning January 2013. I encourage everyone to apply.
The Culinary Challenge ingredient for the 2013 competition is duck. Entries will be due by Friday, January 25, 2013. Chef Dewey McMurrey of Texas Tech is this year’s Culinary Challenge Chair, assisted by last year’s chair Chef William Claypool of Vanderbilt.
Look for another update in January 2013.
Take care,
Bob Miller
