University Food Service is a profession that requires passion, dedication and the ability to problem solve both creatively and expediently. NACUFS supports us in our profession. I want to serve as the NACUFS MidWest Vice President because I desire to impart my knowledge and experience to self-operations who work hard to provide a remarkable experience for their students. NACUFS helps us to be more successful by providing the collective knowledge and experience of the organization. Foodservice was not my original professional aspiration as a freshman in college but became my passion, my calling. I have dedicated myself to being a positive force for the student experience, working to impact students in ways that makes them respect the food service profession and have an appreciation of the resources it takes to provide them with a great experience. My personal dedication is congruent with NACUFS as an organization. My 27 years of food service experience includes both contractor and self-operation in all sectors. I believe strongly that NACUFS can provide support to assist operations to remain or become self-operated. My extensive successful experience will provide essential knowledge to strengthen NACUFS and assist members with information necessary to remain competitive and self-operated.
It would be my pleasure to serve the Midwest Region as Vice-President. Being elected would give me the opportunity to give back to others.
First and most importantly I would fulfill the duties of the position of Vice-President which includes the important task of regional member retention and recruitment.
In support of the Midwest Regional Strategic Planning process, I will plan to identify ways to increase value in NACUFS membership through Regional support.
There are many seasoned professionals in our Midwest Region who stand willing and prepared to assist others with solutions to these and other challenging topics.
This recommendation would be crafted to assist in finding campus solutions from regional resources. Many times the challenges we encounter really just need a fresh set of eyes to see the obvious or most direct ways to solve issues and tackle tough problems.
Most of us don’t know what campus dining will look like in 10, 15, 20 years. We only know that it will probably look much different than what we see today. Prepare yourself today to provide those answers to others in your future.
My first experience with NACUFS was attending the Leadership Institute. At the time, I had no idea the impact this association would have on me personally and professionally. Since then, I have had the opportunity to attend various institutes and volunteer at the regional and national conferences. Serving as the Midwest Region Secretary has opened my eyes to the dedication from our members that goes on behind the scenes making NACUFS the organization it is today. The NACUFS community is valuable to each of us in our own ways. It’s important that we as a regional council continue to work to ensure that our members are made aware of the resources available each of them. As secretary I will continue to share the information needed to keep the Midwest Region informed of decisions made during council meetings. The Midwest Region is strong and I look forward to working with our members to keep us heading in the same direction in the future. I have been honored to serve NACUFS as our Midwest Region Secretary and would like to continue to support our region in that capacity.
Throughout my career, I have found NACUFS to be truly engaging and a source for networking and professional development. I was fortunate to be encouraged with involvement with NACUFS upon getting hired at UNI. Within a couple months, I started working as the regional chair for the Nutrition Awareness Committee. Ever since, I have continued to find various opportunities throughout the NACUFS organization that are truly rewarding endeavors.
I view the position of the regional Vice-President to be an important position within the regional council. Not only does this position need to be available to assist the president as needed, but it also needs to ensure numerous working groups and committees of the region continue to move forward with defined projects. Additionally this positions needs to work on efforts towards our regional membership. This involves not only recruitment of new member schools, but also making sure our current members perceive value from their membership. With my past experiences in NACUFS, I feel this is a position I can succeed in. I would feel honored to have the opportunity to serve in this capacity for the Midwest Region.
Past offices/committees/volunteer efforts in NACUFS (national and regional):
My approach as Information Officer has been two-fold; first and foremost the dissemination of the important inner-workings of our organization - the hows, whys, wheres, and whos that keep our region going. Second, I have shared the plethora of useless information that I possess with the hope that it will spark an idea, strike an emotional cord or just make you smile.
Communication promotes motivation by informing and clarifying. Communication is a source of information used in decision-making. Communication can alter attitudes. Communication is paramount in socialization. As the Midwest Region Information Officer I will continue to share information to motivate our membership and encourage them to be involved. I will utilize the resources at hand to aid in the socialization of our region. I will continue to write from the heart to move your spirits and alter your attitudes.
It will be my pleasure to continue to give freely of my time, knowledge and skills as the Midwest Region Information Officer.
