| Arizona State University Opens New "Pitchforks" Resident Dining Location “Pitchforks” is the newest addition to the Arizona State University Tempe Campus residential dining program. Located in the Memorial Union, the heart of campus, “Pitchforks” is an all-you-care-to-eat facility featuring items like Thai tofu with steamed veggies, Cajun shrimp and hand-carved roast beef. Cooks are seen preparing cuisine at the new international (Fiery Flavors) station and the home-style (Cauldron Corner) area. A made-to-order grille, fresh salad/fruit bar, and dessert corner complete this destination dining concept. In response to students’ concerns about healthy eating and leading balanced lifestyles, Pitchforks offers at least one main vegetarian/vegan daily and continues to offer fresh, health-conscience choices. Formerly an à la carte dining facility, the area of the Memorial Union that houses Pitchforks was completely redesigned in order to accommodate the new facility. Construction on the project began at the end of the Spring 2006 semester and was completed in time for welcome back activities during the start of the Fall 2006 semester. In order to encourage a communal atmosphere within the facility, both booths and tables were installed along with several comfortable, cushioned lounge chairs. Bright colors were used throughout the facility and large windows were installed so that students could see into and out of the dining area. Capable of serving 370 students, Pitchforks is 12,000 sq. ft. The facility is already extremely popular among ASU students and we’re serving nearly 3,000 students each day. “Pitchforks” offers breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday-Friday
7am-12midnight and brunch and dinner on the weekends 10am-9pm. |
